easter 2018

This year the kids had "spring break" right around Easter, really just Good Friday and Easter Monday, but it didn't line up with OVU's break so we planned to stay in WV. We wanted to go to NJ, but Copper hates the car still, and Kathy and Weston were so great to come to us. The kids also had missed so much school from the teacher work stoppage I really thought they might take away those days, but they didn't.

The weekend before, though, we particiapted in the egg hunt at OVU, and then went to the Mid-Ohio Valley Easter parade in downtown Parkersburg.

We went to Grand Central's egg hunt Saturday morning, then had Elle's party Saturday night. Then we decided to get donuts, church at Grand Central on Sunday morning, then our house the rest of the day. We at Mississippi pot roast because Kathy and weston got in town later than we anticipated and missed eating that before. We also had Pioneer Woman mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls. And we had pie, but not from scratch this year. A birthday, and easter all in the same weekend was really too much.

The Easter bunny visited everyone, and the kids loved hiding eggs. We also played Elle's new board game, "Beat the Parents," a kids versus adults game about who knows Disney trivia better. Think the kids won, but can't remember.

We even took a walk because the weather was nice, but everyone was pretty tired by bedtime. It was a good day! One thing we can say is that WV is serious about holidays. They go all out for everything!

easter 2017

Checking out their loot from the Easter Bunny!

Tried to get a picture as soon as we got to church while they were fresh. Todd was just not having it!

Reese really loves her dress. She is telling me, "it's a dress like Ariel's!" Still our little mermaid!

We did an Easter program this year.

Here's a little sample:

Umpteenth time for an egg hunt in the gym!

Finally got a family picture when we got to Tulsa. Still Todd not having it, and I'm resolved to the fact that we'll probably rarely have a picture with everyone looking at the camera.

One with the cousins! They're all so big!

We had a wonderful afternoon and evening at the Taylors' house. Probably my last time to get to Tulsa before baby boy comes. My feet were so swollen by the time we got there. The kids did egg hunts, egg dying, and lots of playing! We ate lots of yummy food!

And another picture with the cousins in their jammies before we headed home.

they said yes to the dress

Elle's first Easter was two weeks after she was born. She had to miss church because I was in the hospital for an appendectomy, but that's another story.

Chris took it upon himself though to get her first Easter dress and has done so ever since. He has also done this for Reese. He decided girls should always have one dress from their daddy. Last year they added to this tradition by making a shopping trip together to pick them out. Tonight they went shopping for this year's dresses. I hope this is a tradition that they cherish and hold special in their hearts. Tune in Easter Sunday for the finished look!

more easter activities

Wouldn't you like this little Easter Bunny to come to your house?

We've done a couple of Easter activities this week. I came up with the Amazing Egg Race when I was trying to come up with an activity for the book The Easter Egg by Jan Brett. In the story she uses the vocabulary word "amazing" so I thought this would be a fun way to teach that word. If you don't know the show, it's about partners who travel around the world finding clues that lead them to the big prize. In our version the partners (Elle and Chris) travel around campus using all of our kid vehicles to find clues in plastic eggs that led them to the big prize.
He did it for Elle. That's all I can say.
They started with the tricycle...
which led them to the wagon...

which led them to the stroller...
which led them to the Daddy's bike...
which led them to the cozy coupe...
and finally to Todd with the jelly beans!

We also went to an Easter party this week at Katie's and Olivia's house. You can read more at Katie's blog. We had the best time!

Todd enjoying himself!
The adorable bunny cake Katie made!
I made these "carrots" that I found at Hungry Happenings.
Then a fun egg hunt for the kiddos!
Elle liked the goldfish in the eggs!
